Founder & Winemaker, Schema Wines
Madelyn Hille’s path to wine started far from the vineyards of Napa— on a family farm in northwest Ohio. The youngest of five, she grew up with the rhythms of rural life and an early respect for food, farming, and the work that ties them together. She spent her teenage years in local diners, learning how to move fast and to pay attention.

Her curiosity about wine began behind a bar. One day, she asked: “How do you balance a wine the way you balance a cocktail?” That question stuck— and in 2016, she flew to New Zealand to work her first harvest at Ant Moore Wines.

Since then, Madelyn has worked with a range of producers including Arnot- Roberts, Pax Wines, Aperture Cellars, Merry Edwards, Inman Family Wines, and St. Supéry Estate.

Schema Wines, launched in 2024, is her first solo project— a continuation of the question that brought her into winemaking in the first place, and a reflection of the thoughtful, hands-on approach she’s shaped along the way.
